I believe we carry within a Divine Life that calls us into a fuller life of love than we generally imagine possible. This Life comes to us from a Source beyond anything that we can name or possess.
Jesus and other great spiritual leaders have tried to convey the good news that we are deeply connected to this Source, but theirs can be a message that seems almost "too good to be true" most days. Often it can feel like quite a struggle to believe in our calling to be a revelation of the Divine, a light to the world, to put it in a poetic form. Humans have also been called by Roman Catholic theologian PierreTeilhard de Chardin "Earth come to consciousness."
It can feel like a tall order at times to live into our collective call as human beings when we must face our own imperfections.
Yet, I believe that ultimately faith is about trust in a Divine Presence, who is Mystery that we can know only in part and who we come to know in diverse ways. It is also about trust in that Divinity at work within us and among us, even in our broken condition, forgiving our weaknesses, and beckoning us newness of life and deepening love through a transforming Holy Spirit at work in us, and in all creation.
I have come to understand that we are in "paradigm-shifting" times that call for a sincere sensitivity to one another's stories, experiences, and new learnings. I try to offer such sensitivity, along with respect and openness to your story when I sit with you in support of your journey through life!
As a spiritual director since the early 2000s, I have companioned people of Roman Catholic, Ecumenical Catholic, Methodist, Unitarian, Episcopal, Disciples of Christ, Lutheran, Buddhist, and Jewish faith perspectives.
In earlier decades (I am now in my 50s), I was a teacher of English in public and private schools, an editor, and a freelance writer in parts of the American Midwest, Southwest, and Pacific Northwest.
I enjoy writing and value it as a way to enter into our spiritual depths and am happy to support your writing to learn about yourself and the Divine within you. I am grateful to have been able to publish Brigid's Circle since 2008 as a way for all our contributing writers and photographers to discover more about themselves and the Divine in creation which they explore in their contributions to this circle!
My studies for this work of spiritual direction were completed at Seattle University's ecumenical theological school, where I earned an M.A. in pastoral sudies and post-masters certificates in transforming spiriutality and pastoral leadership.
I continue to deepen my understandings through studies for a doctorate of ministry through Global Ministries University, where I have delved more deeply into feminist and mystical theologies, Celtic spirituality, and ways that ministerial leadership is evolving in our current age. This has led me to be a participant online with the Creation Spirituality Communities and become a friend of W.A.T.E.R. (Women's Alliance for Theology, Ethics, and Ritual). Other groups I stand in friendship with are Mary Magdalene Apostolic Catholic Community, the Roman Catholic Womenpriest movement, and the Ecumenical Catholic Communion.
I am currently collecting components of past sequences from the online Brigid's Circle into seasonal booklets. I am happy to keep you apprised of the development of this project if you desire.
